Trial sequence

  1. Representative sample

Provide the grades that will actually run: PVC dryblend for conical profile or pipe work, or filled polyolefin, masterbatch and recycled flake for compounding. State bulk density, moisture, additive packages and whether the trial must include the hardest color or filler loading. A generic pellet bag does not establish viscosity or vent load.

  2. Demonstration

Ask each manufacturer to run the stated formulation on the proposed screw, barrel, feeder and vent arrangement. Record specific energy, melt temperature and whether side feeding or vacuum is required. Published torque or screw-diameter tables from public equipment pages are reference questions, not a performance promise from this service.

  3. Acceptance record

Write pass criteria before FAT: dispersion or gel count, melt condition, pellet or profile appearance, and purge waste during changeover. Nominal kg/h without formulation and residence-time notes is not a validated output. SAT on the buyer site remains a separate contract item.

Duty and operating envelope

Procurement scope on this site is a dedicated twin screw extruder and the auxiliaries you choose to include. Adjacent equipment such as a complete washing plant is not a separate keyword landing page. Conical PVC extrusion and parallel co-rotating compounding are different architectures; mixing them in one RFQ hides the duty cycle and feedstock questions that drive gearbox, L/D and cooling-water demand.

Material entering the machine
Name polymer, filler, additive and recycle content. State whether feed is powder, pellets, flakes or liquid. Moisture and volatiles decide vent zones. Do not substitute a resin family name for a formulation that will be accepted.
Required output
Give throughput in kg/h together with formulation, moisture and the quality metric (dispersion, melt index window, pellet size). Connected load in kW and three-phase supply must match the same duty, not an office-socket assumption.
Duty cycle
Hours per day, number of formulation changeovers, and whether the line idles hot. Changeover and spare parts access affect quoted wear components. A 24-hour compounding schedule is not interchangeable with a two-shift profile plant.

Compare procurement cost boundaries for twin screw extruder work

Machine

Base quote usually covers gearbox, barrel, screws, heaters and a stated control cabinet. Feeders, side feeders, vacuum pumps, screen changers, dies, pelletizers and melt pumps are often optional. Tooling and mold (die) sets for profiles belong on a separate line if PVC conical work is intended.

Delivery

Ocean freight, inland cartage, fumigation, duties and insurance should be listed as included or excluded. Crate lists must name barrel sections and spare screws. Destination ZIP and unloading method change the landed cost more than a headline machine price.

Site

Foundations, cooling water, compressed air, extraction for vents, three-phase supply, footprint and PLC interface to plant historians are typically buyer or installer items unless the RFQ says otherwise. Installation, commissioning and training should not be assumed inside the machine SKU.

What should a buyer confirm when requesting a twin screw extruder?

Does the formulation need conical PVC extrusion or parallel compounding?

Machine

Conical PVC work typically quotes profile or pipe tooling, vacuum calibration and a different screw geometry than a co-rotating compounding screw with kneading blocks. Ask which architecture is being priced before comparing dollars.

Delivery

Profile calibration tables and long dies ship differently from a compact compounding skid. Confirm crate contents so a missing feeder or die is not discovered after arrival.

Site

PVC dryblend handling, dust extraction and calibration-water loops differ from gravimetric feeding of pellets and powders. The site utility list must follow the chosen architecture.

Which responsibilities remain with the equipment supplier and buyer?

Manufacturers confirm feasibility on the stated formulation, supply the agreed machine boundary, and document FAT samples. Buyers provide feedstock data, utilities, destination and acceptance samples. Twin Screw Extruder Sourcing coordinates comparable RFQs; we do not certify plants, issue CE or UL files, or guarantee kg/h on untested recipes. Engineering acceptance stays in the purchase contract.
